Italo Zanzi: A Multifaceted Sports Executive Poised to Lead Hellas Verona
Hellas Verona is on the brink of new ownership, with Presidio Investors, a Texas-based private equity group, reportedly finalizing a deal to acquire the club. The potential new CEO is Italo Zanzi, a seasoned sports executive with a notable stint as CEO of AS Roma under James Pallotta’s presidency.
Born in New York in 1974, Zanzi has built an impressive career spanning various sports disciplines. A former handball goalkeeper who won bronze with the USA at the 2003 Pan American Games, Zanzi’s professional journey began in baseball. From 2000 to 2007, he managed marketing and broadcast rights for Major League Baseball.
Zanzi’s expertise extends to soccer administration. In 2007, he became Secretary General of CONCACAF, where he played a crucial role in revamping the CONCACAF Champions League in 2008. His resume also includes positions with FOX Sports Network, FIFA, and currently as Chief Operating Officer of droppGroup.
In early 2013, Zanzi took on the role of CEO at AS Roma under James Pallotta’s presidency. He served in this capacity for three and a half years before stepping down in June 2016. Upon his departure, Zanzi expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pride in the club’s improved position.
Beyond sports, Zanzi ventured into politics in 2006, running for the U.S. Congress as a Republican in New York’s first congressional district, securing 38% of the vote.
With his diverse background in sports management and administration, Italo Zanzi appears well-equipped to potentially guide Hellas Verona into a new era under fresh ownership.
