Italy is still in contention for an additional Champions League spot for the next season after Inter Milan’s 2-1 victory against Feyenoord in the Champions League round of 16 second leg. However, for a fifth Serie A team to participate in the competition next season, either Spain or England needs to fall in the rankings.
Inter Milan progressed to the Champions League quarter-finals with a 4-1 aggregate win over Feyenoord. This includes a 2-1 victory at San Siro on Tuesday, with goals from Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu.
Inter is currently the only Italian team remaining in the Champions League after Juventus, Milan, Atalanta, and Bologna were eliminated.
Having fewer teams in the Champions League puts Italy at a disadvantage compared to England and Spain, who still have three teams each competing as of Wednesday’s fixtures.
Considering the Europa and Conference Leagues, Italy has four teams remaining, while both England and Spain have six.
