Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the ‘Rubiales case’, Jenni Hermoso has not been selected for the upcoming matches of the Spanish women’s national team. The team is set to face Belgium and England in the Nations League.
This marks the second consecutive absence for the forward from Carabanchel. Head coach Montse Tomé, who recently testified in the Rubiales case, stated that Hermoso’s omission was purely for sporting reasons and not related to any off-field issues. However, Tomé had previously claimed that Hermoso’s initial absence was to “protect her” rather than due to pressure from the Spanish Football Federation.
The 23-player squad for the Nations League matches against Belgium and England includes:
- Goalkeepers: Cata Coll, Adriana Nanclares, Esther Sullastres
- Defenders: Laia Aleixandri, Laia Codina, Ona Batlle, Olga Carmona, Irene Paredes, Sheila García, María Méndez, Leila Ouahabi
- Midfielders: Teresa Abelleira, Maite Oroz, Vicky López, Maite Zubieta, Aitana Bonmatí
- Forwards: Alba Redondo, Salma Paralluelo, Mariona, Athenea, Claudia Pina, Amaiur, Lucía García
Notable absences include Misa Rodríguez, Esther González, and the injured Alexia Putellas and Patri Guijarro. Spain will play Belgium on February 21 at Ciutat de Valencia, followed by a match against England at Wembley Stadium on February 26.
