Judge Denies Temporary Injunction for Dani Olmo’s Barcelona Registration
A Spanish court has rejected Barcelona’s request for a temporary injunction that would have allowed the club to register Dani Olmo for the second half of the La Liga season. This ruling puts Barcelona in a precarious position regarding the player’s future.
The club had hoped that their new agreement with Nike would be sufficient to balance their finances and comply with financial fair play regulations. However, the judge ruled that Barcelona still does not meet the necessary requirements.
This decision leaves Barcelona scrambling to find a way to register Olmo before December 31st. If they fail to do so, Olmo could potentially become a free agent on January 1st due to a clause in his contract.
Olmo joined Barcelona last summer for €47 million plus variables. His contract includes a provision allowing him to leave for free if not registered by the end of any transfer window until 2030. This clause was added in August after initial registration difficulties.
To avoid losing such a valuable asset for nothing, Barcelona is considering desperate measures. Options include selling VIP box seats for the future Camp Nou or securing a personal guarantee. The club’s president, Joan Laporta, must now decide on a course of action following this unfavorable court ruling.
The situation highlights the ongoing financial challenges faced by Barcelona and the potential consequences of their economic struggles in the transfer market.
