Juventus Captain Danilo Out for Monza Match, McKennie Poised to Step In

Juventus will be without their captain Danilo for tonight’s Serie A encounter with Monza. The Brazilian defender’s absence has been confirmed, paving the way for US international Weston McKennie to likely start in an unfamiliar left-back role.

Multiple sources, including Juventus insider Romeo Agresti, have reported that Danilo did not travel with the squad to Monza on Saturday. The veteran defender remained behind for further assessment of an ankle issue he recently sustained.

This morning’s medical evaluation determined that Danilo is not fit enough even for a place on the bench, ruling him out of the match at the U-Power Stadium entirely.

With Jonas Rouhi also sidelined and Andrea Cambiaso not fully match-fit, McKennie is expected to reprise the left-back role he filled in Juventus’ recent Coppa Italia victory over Cagliari.

The Old Lady enters the fixture undefeated in Serie A this season, though their campaign has been marked by a high number of draws – 10 in their opening 16 matches.

Massimiliano Allegri will be hoping his makeshift defense can help secure a vital three points as Juventus look to keep pace at the top of the table.
