Juventus has officially announced the sale of midfielder Douglas Luiz to Premier League club Nottingham Forest. The transfer comes just one year after Juventus acquired Luiz from Aston Villa in a deal totaling €31.5 million.
The transfer will initially be structured as a season-long loan for €3 million, with a conditional obligation for Nottingham Forest to purchase Luiz for €25 million, payable over four installments. The deal also includes potential bonuses of up to €3.5 million, which could bring the total transfer fee to €31.5 million.
Juventus decided to part ways with the Brazilian midfielder after he struggled to make an impact during his brief time in Serie A. Luiz started only three league matches for Juventus last season. He also failed to report for the first few days of Juventus`s pre-season training under new manager Igor Tudor this summer.
In a statement on their website, Juventus wished Luiz well, saying “Best of luck for the future, Douglas!”
Nottingham Forest expressed excitement about the signing, highlighting Luiz`s experience in the Champions League with Juventus and his successful stint at Aston Villa, where he made over 200 appearances. The club noted Luiz`s versatility as a central midfielder capable of playing both deep-lying and more advanced roles.
During his time at Aston Villa, Luiz impressed with his goal contributions, scoring 22 times and providing 24 assists. His standout 2022/23 season saw him voted both Supporters` Player of the Season and Players` Player of the Season at Villa.
The move represents a quick return to the Premier League for Luiz, where he previously excelled. Nottingham Forest will be hoping the Brazilian can recapture the form that made him such a key player for Aston Villa as they look to establish themselves in the top flight.
