Juventus’ Dreamers Era Ends, Humiliated by Atalanta’s Symphony

The Juventus of dreamers is over, those who made Scudetto tables chasing Inter and Napoli. It’s over after a humiliating night, where there was no contest. No game or players, no alibis or excuses. Neither first nor second half. Nothing. Juve is nothing and only has the hope of containing Lazio and Bologna in the race for fourth place. But it won’t be easy at all. Especially because the number 4, after losing 4-0 at home, can only be frightening. Atalanta’s entire match should be broken down into video clips to send to Coverciano, to the coaching masterclass. It was a symphony.

It’s better not to talk about the Juventus collective and Thiago Motta’s choices. There will be time and ways in the coming days and weeks, when Giuntoli (as he has already done in dark glasses so far) will look for a replacement for next season precisely in the “killer” Gasperini.

Scattered player ratings, however, yes. Here they are. Di Gregorio good, indeed very good, even miraculous at the end of the first half, when not even he knows how he saved the goal. Weah limited the collateral damage from his area of responsibility, Lookman’s zone. When the unknown Alberto Costa entered in the second half, it went worse. Worse than usual, Gatti (energetic and nothing more) this time provided a sufficient version of Kelly, but disastrous in the self-assist that generated Atalanta’s 2-0. On the left then Cambiaso was always in trouble against Cuadrado and Bellanova’s overlaps.

In midfield, Thuram just barely sufficient this time and Locatelli just ordinary. In short, they did not shine compared to Ederson and De Roon who overwhelmingly won all duels. But the real difficulties came further up, with Yildiz who looked like a drenched kitten on the right, Nico Gonzalez a spectator on the left and McKennie an out-of-shape raider near Kolo Muani who rarely saw the tool of his bomber trade: the ball. In the second half there was a relay of great former players: Cuadrado out for Brescianini on one side, Koopmeiners in for Yildiz in the Juventus mess. Juve’s situation worsened, even if it seemed impossible after a first half already of great embarrassment. And Vlahovic’s slip was also embarrassing, which opened up the highway for Atalanta’s last goal.

This was a kind of final to enter the Scudetto race. Atalanta overwhelmingly won it, and in a week they will face Inter in Bergamo… For Juve, however, this is the fourth seasonal failure in the important matches. First it was the Supercoppa semi-final, then the Champions League play-off with Psv Eindhoven, then the disgust in the Italian Cup with Empoli. The last final won remains that of the last Italian Cup 2024. It seems like a lifetime ago, but it was just ten months. There were no ruins in May 2024; there are in March 2025.
