Juventus Financial Savings from Danilo’s Contract Termination

Juventus Financial Savings from Danilo’s Contract Termination

The relationship between Juventus and Danilo had been deteriorating for some time, likely since Thiago Motta replaced Allegri as manager. Early signs emerged in August when the Brazilian was left out of the starting lineup in the first few league matches, with the young Savona preferred in his place. Danilo quickly transitioned from team captain to a reserve player within a few months, accepting his bench role without complaint and giving his best when called upon. Eventually, their paths diverged permanently during the January transfer window.

Danilo’s contract with Juventus was set to expire in June, with an option to extend until 2026 that was never seriously considered. His salary was €4 million per season (€5 million gross). However, with his departure, the Brazilian chose to forgo several months of wages. Juventus paid his salary until January, with the player leaving approximately €2 million on the table, which translates to over €2.5 million in savings for the club.

Danilo will return to Brazil, where he is expected to sign a two-year contract with Flamengo. He also had an offer from Santos, but more notably, there was persistent interest from Antonio Conte, who wanted to bring him to Napoli. Throughout January, the two had frequent discussions, and the defender seriously considered a move to the Azzurri. For Conte, Danilo represented an ideal acquisition, particularly due to his versatility. However, after weeks of deliberation, the player ultimately decided to return home, where he may conclude his career in the coming years.
