Juventus Squanders Lead Again in 1-1 Draw with Atalanta
Juventus once again failed to secure a victory, drawing 1-1 with Atalanta after taking the lead. Players Weston McKennie and Pierre Kalulu expressed their disappointment with the team’s inability to hold onto the advantage.
The match was action-packed until the final whistle, with opportunities at both ends. Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi made a spectacular save to deny Kalulu’s header, while Mario Pasalic squandered a clear chance for the home side.
Kalulu eventually broke the deadlock, scoring off an assist from McKennie. However, Mateo Retegui equalized late in the game, heading in a knockdown from Raoul Bellanova.
Kalulu shared his mixed emotions after the match: “I’m proud to have scored, but conceding late is frustrating. We had more chances to score and wanted to prove ourselves. Small details made the difference today.”
Juventus has now conceded in their last seven Serie A matches. Kalulu acknowledged that all goals are preventable and stressed the importance of perseverance: “We need to be resilient, learn from our mistakes, and trust that hard work will lead to improvement.”
McKennie, who played in an attacking role after several games as a left-back, emphasized team priorities: “My position doesn’t matter – what’s important is that the team succeeds. Juventus should always be at the top and winning these matches.”
The draw leaves Juventus 15 points behind their tally at this stage last season. McKennie added: “We created more chances today, but that doesn’t matter if we don’t score or keep conceding. It’s a difficult period, but we must stay united as a team, club, and with the fans.”
Both Juventus and Atalanta seem to be stuck in a pattern of draws, with this result marking Juventus’ 13th draw in 20 Serie A matches and Atalanta’s third consecutive stalemate.
