Kean: ‘Italy’s Changed Attitude Crucial in Comeback’
Moise Kean scored twice to ignite Italy’s comeback from a 3-0 deficit against Germany, resulting in a 3-3 draw. Despite the impressive turnaround, it wasn’t enough for Italy to advance in the Nations League. Kean emphasized the importance of the team’s shift in attitude during the match.
Italy’s chances of progressing to the Final Four were slim after a 2-1 loss at home. The situation worsened in Dortmund as Germany built a 3-0 lead in the first half through a Joshua Kimmich penalty, Jamal Musiala’s goal from a quick corner, and Tim Kleindienst’s header.
The second half saw a dramatic turnaround, with Kean netting twice and Giacomo Raspadori converting a penalty. However, Italy lost the Nations League quarter-final 5-4 on aggregate.
Kean’s Double Fuels Italy’s Resurgence
“Demonstrating a different attitude was crucial,” Kean told RAI Sport. “We could have performed better in the first half, but the key was our comeback after the break. We aimed for victory, and although we fell short, I’m pleased with my performance.”
Addressing Italy’s poor first-half showing, Kean explained, “It was challenging against an excellent German team. We gave our best, but they found spaces and attacked us effectively. In the second half, we needed to play with renewed spirit, which we achieved, aiming to secure a result. We’ll improve in future matches.”
Regarding the unusual goal conceded from a quick corner, Kean admitted, “We lost focus momentarily. Such goals can happen, but we’ll work on preventing them in the future.”
