The Serbian Football Federation has confirmed that Aleksandar Kolarov will be joining Inter Milan as an assistant manager to former teammate Cristian Chivu. This announcement comes after Kolarov`s departure from his position as head coach of the Serbia Under-21 team.
Rumors had been circulating about Kolarov`s potential move to San Siro, and the Serbian authorities effectively confirmed this in their statement. They noted that Kolarov had “accepted the offer to join the coaching staff of the Champions League finalists Inter as assistant manager.”
Kolarov`s Coaching Journey
At 39 years old, Kolarov is relatively new to coaching. His role with the Serbia Under-21 team, which he took on in November 2024, was his first coaching position. During his brief tenure, he oversaw only five matches.
Prior to entering coaching, Kolarov had a short stint as a director of sport at Pisa, having retired from professional football in 2022. His playing career included two years at Inter from 2020 to 2022, as well as spells with Roma, Manchester City, Lazio, OFK Belgrade, and Cukaricki.
Inter`s Coaching Staff
Inter had initially sought to bring in another former player, Walter Samuel, for the assistant manager role. However, Samuel remains committed to his position as assistant manager to Lionel Scaloni with the Argentina national team.
The Nerazzurri have already departed for Los Angeles to begin preparations for the Club World Cup. Kolarov is expected to join the team there to commence his new role.
