Kyle Walker Requests to Leave Manchester City

Manchester City’s captain Kyle Walker has expressed his desire to leave the club, as confirmed by manager Pep Guardiola during a press conference ahead of the cup match against Salford City.

Guardiola revealed, “Two days ago, Kyle (Walker) asked to explore options to play abroad and end his career there. For this reason, I prefer to play with other players whose focus is here.” The manager praised Walker’s contributions, stating, “We cannot understand the success we’ve had in recent years without Kyle. It’s impossible. He’s been our right-back and has given us something we didn’t have. He’s been incredible.”

Walker, who has been with Manchester City for eight seasons and currently serves as captain, seems to have decided his time with the club has come to an end. The English defender reportedly approached sporting director Txiki Begiristain last week to request his departure, expressing a desire to play abroad rather than for another Premier League club.

Despite being considered one of the world’s best right-backs, particularly in defensive aspects, the 34-year-old Walker has faced challenges this season. Injuries have limited his playing time, with only 18 appearances, 11 as a starter. This reduced role may have influenced his decision to seek opportunities elsewhere.

While Walker’s preferred destination remains unclear, there are rumors linking him to Saudi Arabia. Guardiola admitted uncertainty about the player’s future plans. Italian media have also reported that AC Milan is in negotiations with the defender. Walker’s current contract with Manchester City runs until 2026, leaving the situation open to further developments.
