La Liga President Criticizes CSD Decision and Implicates Real Madrid
Javier Tebas, President of La Liga, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the Spanish Sports Council’s (CSD) recent decision regarding Barcelona’s player registrations. The CSD granted Barcelona a temporary injunction to register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, contradicting the positions previously taken by La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation.
Tebas took to social media to voice his concerns, describing the situation as a “tragicomedy”. He highlighted three main issues with the CSD’s resolution:
- The unusual speed of the process, which didn’t allow La Liga or the Spanish Football Federation to present their views.
- Disregard for previous decisions made by both the CSD and judicial bodies.
- A lack of understanding about how pre-approvals and quasi-definitive licenses are managed in football administration.
The La Liga president also questioned the CSD’s expertise in handling player registrations and suggested that the decision contradicts the principles of financial control praised in the Sports Law.
In a surprising turn, Tebas implicated Real Madrid in the controversy. He stated, “The CSD president seems to be listening to a single voice that doesn’t represent Spanish professional football. Interestingly, that voice remains complicitly silent in this case. Where is Real Madrid TV now?” This statement suggests that Tebas believes Real Madrid, particularly its president Florentino Pérez, may have influenced the CSD’s decision.
Tebas concluded by asserting that the CSD, especially its president, appears intent on dismantling systems that work well in La Liga and have majority support from the clubs. He warned that this decision could have far-reaching consequences for the financial stability and integrity of Spanish football.
