Laporta’s Leadership at Barcelona Under Fire
Victor Font, a former presidential candidate and vocal critic of Joan Laporta, has launched a scathing attack on the current Barcelona president. In a recent interview with RAC1, Font addressed Laporta’s accusations of destabilizing the club and outlined his concerns about the current leadership.
Font, along with other opposition figures, has proposed a vote of no confidence against the current board. He explained, “We’ve concluded that this president cannot continue. He’s ill-equipped to handle the club’s challenges, as evidenced by recent player negotiations.”
Criticizing Laporta’s public behavior, Font stated, “It’s distressing to see the president so aggressive. His recent press conference provided no information and disrespected thousands of Barcelona supporters. He confuses himself with the club and shouldn’t dictate who is a good or bad supporter.”
Regarding club management, Font asserted, “Laporta needs to step down immediately. Every day he remains, we lose opportunities. The club needs more than just a charismatic communicator. We want a president who tells the truth and implements meritocracy.”
Font also highlighted financial concerns: “Laporta promised to recover income, but we’re still at pre-pandemic levels. We continue to spend 800 million euros. This administration has lost over a billion euros. The debt is higher than under Bartomeu, with similar income but equal spending.”
These strong statements from Font underscore the growing opposition to Laporta’s presidency and the challenges facing Barcelona both on and off the pitch.
