Barcelona President Joan Laporta has released a statement following the death of club doctor Carles Minyarro Garcia.
“On behalf of FC Barcelona, I want to announce the passing of our doctor, Carles Minyarro. This is a significant loss for all of us, as he was a very beloved person. Carles was always present, accompanying us on trips and caring for the players and staff, never refusing to help anyone. He was an exceptional professional and doctor.”
“This sad event should strengthen us. In this moment of pain and sorrow, we decided to request a postponement of the match against Osasuna, and the club contacted the president of La Liga. He was understanding and handled the formalities. We received immense support from Osasuna, their management, and coach, who were ready to assist us.”
“This is shocking and heartbreaking news, and we feel devastated. The club has contacted Carles’s wife and mother to inform them of the incident as soon as possible. Carles leaves behind two children, Gerard and Elana. His wife is understandably in deep shock. We are providing the family with our full support and ask for understanding from the fans and the entire football community.”
“When we communicated our decision, we received maximum understanding. Out of respect for the doctor, his family, the players, staff, and all club employees, we decided that postponing the match would be the best course of action. It is the right decision,” Laporta stated, as reported by Sport.es.
Due to Garcia’s passing, the La Liga matchday 27 fixture between Barcelona and Osasuna, originally scheduled for March 8th, has been postponed.
The match between Barcelona and Osasuna may be rescheduled for April 26th or May 21st, depending on Barcelona’s progress in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.
After 26 La Liga matchdays, Barcelona leads the league table with 57 points, while Osasuna is in 11th place with 33 points.
