Lazio Held to 1-1 Draw by Torino in Serie A Clash
Lazio’s hopes of securing a top four finish in Serie A took a hit as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Torino at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday. Adam Marusic gave Lazio the lead in the 57th minute, but Gvidas Gineitis equalized for Torino in the 82nd minute to share the spoils.
The match was evenly contested, with both sides creating chances throughout. Torino had an early opportunity when a misplaced backpass led to a counter-attack, but Che Adams could only win a corner. Lazio responded quickly, with Mattia Zaccagni forcing a save from Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
Lazio dominated possession and had more shots on goal, but struggled to find the breakthrough. The deadlock was finally broken just before the hour mark when Pedro’s clever flick set up Marusic, who curled a shot into the far corner.
The home side looked to be heading for victory, but Torino’s substitutes made an impact late on. Yann Karamoh and Gineitis combined well, with the latter firing home from close range to level the scores.
The draw leaves Lazio four points behind fourth-placed Bologna in the race for Champions League qualification. It was their third consecutive home draw, much to the frustration of the Lazio fans who booed at the final whistle.
Torino will be pleased to come away with a point, which keeps them in mid-table. The result showcased their resilience after falling behind against a strong Lazio side.
