Lazio Manager Baroni Discusses Victory Over Lecce and Player Fitness Concerns
Following Lazio’s 2-1 victory against Lecce, manager Marco Baroni shared his thoughts on the match and team performance. Baroni acknowledged the challenging nature of the game, describing it as “a bit messy and complicated.”
“We knew Lecce would play a style that troubles us, with their vertical passes and intense physical play,” Baroni explained. “Our team aimed to bring as much quality to the field as possible. In the second half, we put in a lot of crosses – 17 in total.”
Baroni praised his squad’s recent performance, noting, “This team has achieved 10 victories in 58 days. It’s a group that stays focused and works with the right mentality. I want to commend the players because these types of matches are crucial, and you only win them if you truly believe.”
Interestingly, Baroni pointed out the challenges of playing with a numerical advantage: “For me, when you have a player advantage, it actually becomes more difficult. You need to stay clear-headed and maintain balance.”
The manager also addressed fitness concerns, particularly regarding Dia and Castellanos. “They’re dealing with some minor physical issues, likely due to their national team call-ups,” he explained.
Reflecting on the tense final moments of the match, Baroni admitted, “We dropped back and showed some fear. We could have managed it better, but luck was on our side this time.”
