Leao Hints at Controversy Surrounding Bologna’s Equalizer, But Maintains Faith in Milan’s Top 4 Aspirations
AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has expressed frustration over the circumstances of Bologna’s equalizer in their recent match, suggesting there might be more to the story. However, he remains confident in the team’s ability to secure a top-four finish in Serie A.
The Rossoneri have faced a challenging period, having been eliminated from the Champions League play-offs by Feyenoord and slipping to eighth place in the domestic league. In their rescheduled Week 9 fixture at the Stadio Dall’Ara, Milan took the lead through Leao but ultimately succumbed to a 2-1 defeat.
Leao’s Frustration and Optimism
“We felt we had control of the game. Our goal was to win and climb the table. I believe we’re responsible for today’s outcome, but that’s how things are going,” Leao stated in a post-match interview.
The Portuguese forward hinted at controversy surrounding Bologna’s equalizer, which came from a Santiago Castro tap-in following a ball that appeared to bounce off Giovanni Fabbian’s arm. VAR reviewed the incident and deemed it legal.
“The first goal was quite unusual. I’ve seen the footage. Regardless, we need to focus on our performance. We played excellently in the first half and should have maintained that level,” Leao added.
Despite the setback, Leao remains optimistic about Milan’s Champions League prospects: “I still believe we can achieve our goal. There are many games left, and Serie A is becoming increasingly competitive with all teams capable of dropping points. We must focus on our own performance and secure victories.”
With a crucial match against fifth-placed Lazio on the horizon, Leao emphasized the importance of fan support and treating every remaining game as a final in their quest for a top-four finish.
