Leicester City Pursuing “Fantastic” Striker Ahead of Transfer Window Closing

After securing a crucial victory against Tottenham Hotspur in their last match, Leicester City are now reportedly setting their sights on strengthening their attack before the transfer window closes on February 3.

The Foxes currently sit just above the relegation zone, but are looking to increase that gap and ensure Premier League survival. While names like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been linked with a move to the King Power Stadium, another player could be set for a return to English football.

According to reports from Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Leicester are competing to sign Chuba Akpom from Ajax before the deadline. The 29-year-old forward previously played for Arsenal and Middlesbrough in England before moving to the Netherlands.

Bringing in an experienced striker like Akpom could help ease the burden on 38-year-old Jamie Vardy, who continues to impress despite his age. Akpom showed his goalscoring prowess at Middlesbrough, becoming their first striker in over 30 years to net 20 league goals in a single season back in 2023.

Former Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick praised Akpom’s “fantastic” performances, highlighting his all-round game as well as his goalscoring ability. While Akpom has struggled to replicate that form at Ajax, a return to English football could reignite his career.
