Lens Nears Agreement with Former Premier League Goalkeeper Mathew Ryan
French Ligue 1 club Lens is reportedly close to finalizing a deal to bring Australian international goalkeeper Mathew Ryan to the team. The 32-year-old shot-stopper, currently with AS Roma, is seeking a move that would see him take on a starting role.
Lens has been actively searching for a new goalkeeper following the unexpected mid-season transfer of Brice Samba to Stade Rennais for €14 million. The club’s initial plans to secure Marseille’s Pau Lopez on loan fell through due to complications with his current team, Girona FC.
Ryan, who has previous experience in the Premier League with Arsenal and Brighton, has found limited opportunities at Roma this season, making just one appearance in the Coppa Italia. With his contract set to expire in June, both Lens and Roma are engaged in negotiations, and an agreement is reportedly imminent.
The potential signing of Ryan would provide Lens with an experienced goalkeeper to fill the void left by Samba’s departure. The Australian’s desire for regular first-team football aligns with Lens’ need for a reliable presence between the posts as they continue their campaign in Ligue 1.
