Lens President Expresses Desire for Will Still to Continue as Manager
Will Still faced significant challenges upon joining RC Lens last summer. After leaving Stade de Reims, he was rumored to return to England but instead took over from Franck Haise at Lens. Still had to fill the shoes of a club legend while adapting to stricter financial constraints.
The club made minimal investments and sold valuable players like Elye Wahi in the summer, as well as Abdukodir Khusanov, Kevin Danso, Brice Samba, and Przemyslaw Frankowski during the winter transfer window. Despite these obstacles and personal difficulties, Still has led Lens to ninth place in Ligue 1, with a chance at European qualification – a notable achievement in his inaugural season.
Lens president Joseph Oughourlian, speaking to the media, expressed his hope for Still to stay with the club. “I certainly want Will Still to remain for next season. He’s been fantastic. We’ve rarely had a manager who embodies the club’s identity so well, even with his Anglo-Belgian background. He’s skilled and has built a close-knit team. He’s grateful for the opportunity and has grown significantly during this challenging year,” Oughourlian stated.
