Leon Fust Opens Up About His Departure from Bayern Munich
Leon Fust, a recent addition to FC Kuban, has shared insights into why his career at Bayern Munich, where he was a youth academy product, didn’t progress as expected.
Fust began his journey in football at a young age, joining Bayern Munich’s academy and eventually making it to the second team. He even had the opportunity to train with the first team under coaches Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann. However, things took a turn in February 2022.
“Until February 2022, everything was going well. But then I started to be gradually sidelined,” Fust explained. He was sent on loan to SKU Amstetten in Austria’s second division. “To be honest, I didn’t immediately realize how much the attitude towards me at the Munich club had changed, but eventually I had to terminate my contract by mutual agreement.”
When asked if the change was due to political reasons, Fust elaborated: “As I mentioned, after February 2022, the attitude towards me changed. Some people from the second team’s coaching staff stopped making eye contact when we met, and some wouldn’t shake my hand. The treatment during training sessions became indifferent.”
Upon returning from his loan in Austria, Fust found himself completely excluded from team activities without explanation. “We tried to talk to the club and clarify the situation, but no one would tell us directly why I was being pushed aside. In the end, the only option was to agree on leaving Bayern Munich,” he said.
Fust expressed disappointment about the way his time at Bayern ended, given the many years he had spent in the club’s system. However, he emphasized that this doesn’t negate all the positive experiences he had there previously.
