Ligue 1 Confronts Potential TV Rights Crisis as DAZN Delays Payment
The French football league (LFP) has called an urgent meeting with Ligue 1 club presidents as a new television rights crisis looms. The league’s primary broadcaster, DAZN, is reportedly withholding payments due to perceived lack of loyalty from Ligue 1 clubs.
Clubs were expecting to receive €57 million in TV rights money, but have only received the smaller portion from beIN Sports so far. DAZN is considering legal action against the LFP, claiming insufficient efforts to combat piracy and protect their interests.
The situation has raised serious concerns among club presidents about the financial stability of French football. LFP president Vincent Labrune has described the matter as “regrettably urgent,” highlighting the gravity of the issue.
This development comes at a critical time for Ligue 1, which has already been grappling with financial challenges. The emergency meeting aims to address the crisis and find a solution to secure the league’s financial future.
