Lille Challenges Lyon’s Controversial Player Acquisition
Lille has officially lodged a complaint with the French Professional Football League (LFP) regarding Lyon’s recent acquisition of Thiago Almada. The 23-year-old Argentine midfielder joined Lyon on loan from Botafogo, sparking controversy in the French football community.
Lyon is currently under a transfer embargo due to financial difficulties, which should prevent them from signing new players. The club faces potential relegation to Ligue 2 if they fail to demonstrate efforts to improve their financial situation. However, Lyon managed to secure Almada’s services through a loan arrangement with their sister club, without paying a transfer fee.
Lille is not alone in their protest against this move. Both Toulouse and Reims have previously filed complaints when Almada was included in Lyon’s squad for matches against them. The World Cup-winning midfielder’s presence in Lyon’s team has raised questions about the effectiveness of the transfer ban.
As of now, no further action has been taken against Lyon in response to these complaints. The situation continues to be closely monitored by French football authorities and rival clubs.
