Liverpool already has an “elite” star worth more than Cherki
Despite losing their final Champions League group match against PSV, Liverpool still topped their group and advanced to the round of 16. Harvey Elliott stood out in the match, scoring a goal and impressing with his play.
Elliott’s performance suggests Liverpool may already have the creative attacking midfielder they need, rather than pursuing transfer target Rayan Cherki from Lyon. At 21 years old, Elliott is valued at £29.2 million, higher than Cherki’s £25 million valuation.
While Cherki has better per-90 minute stats in most categories this season, Elliott has shown his potential playing in the Premier League. With more trust and responsibility, Elliott could develop into the creative playmaker Liverpool needs in midfield.
Elliott was previously labeled “elite” for a standout midfield performance against Newcastle in 2022. If given more opportunities, he may be able to take on a larger creative role and improve his underlying numbers.
Rather than pursuing an expensive transfer for Cherki, Liverpool may be better served by continuing to develop Elliott and giving him more chances to showcase his abilities as an attacking midfielder. The young Englishman has already demonstrated he can make an impact at the Premier League level.
