Liverpool could sign their own version of Fabinho for £50m
During Jurgen Klopp’s tenure as Liverpool manager, the team achieved remarkable success both domestically and in Europe. While the attacking trio of Salah, Firmino and Mane garnered much attention, scoring an impressive 442 goals combined, the contributions of other key players were crucial to the team’s triumphs.
One such unsung hero was Brazilian midfielder Fabinho. Making 219 appearances for Liverpool, Fabinho excelled at breaking up opposition attacks and initiating quick counterattacks. His defensive work rate and ability to progress the ball were vital components of Liverpool’s title-winning side in 2019/20.
As Liverpool aim for another Premier League crown under new manager Arne Slot, they may look to reinforce the midfield with a player in Fabinho’s mold. Reports suggest the Reds are monitoring Atalanta’s Ederson as a potential January transfer target.
The 25-year-old Brazilian shares many similarities with Fabinho, both in playing style and statistical output. Like Fabinho, Ederson is adept at winning back possession and distributing the ball progressively. His signing could provide Liverpool with the defensive midfield presence they’ve lacked since Fabinho’s departure.
While the reported £50 million price tag is substantial, acquiring a player of Ederson’s caliber could prove decisive in Liverpool’s title push. By adding a natural defensive midfielder, Slot would have greater tactical flexibility and allow other midfielders like Gravenberch more attacking freedom.
As Liverpool seek to reclaim their place atop English football, Ederson represents an intriguing option to fill the void left by Fabinho and potentially take the team to the next level in their pursuit of silverware.
