Liverpool rues selling prolific striker now outperforming current forwards
Liverpool sits atop the Premier League and has reached the EFL Cup final after defeating Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. However, their shock 1-0 FA Cup loss to Plymouth Argyle has highlighted some attacking deficiencies.
While Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo have been in good form, strikers Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota have struggled to find the net consistently. Nunez has only 4 goals in 18 Premier League appearances, while Jota has just 2 goals in his last 5 league matches.
Meanwhile, former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke is thriving at Tottenham after developing his game at Bournemouth. Solanke has 11 goals in 29 appearances for Spurs this season, outscoring both Nunez and Jota.
Solanke struggled during his time at Liverpool, scoring just once in 27 appearances before being sold to Bournemouth. However, he blossomed on the south coast, netting 77 goals in 216 games and earning a £65 million move to Tottenham last summer.
The 27-year-old striker’s success has led some to label him a “monster” in front of goal. Liverpool may now regret not showing more patience with Solanke, as he has developed into the prolific Premier League striker they hoped he would become.
