Liverpool Shift Focus from Kvaratskhelia to £50m Defender Signing
Liverpool appear to have cooled their interest in Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and are instead prioritizing the signing of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez for a reported £50 million fee.
While Kvaratskhelia was seen as an exciting attacking option, Liverpool’s needs may be more pressing in defense. Current left-back Andy Robertson, now 30, has shown signs of decline this season. At 21, Kerkez represents a long-term solution at the position.
The Hungarian defender has impressed for Bournemouth this season, contributing one goal and three assists while helping keep five clean sheets. His energetic, attacking style has drawn comparisons to a young Robertson.
Liverpool are said to be leading Manchester United and Manchester City in the race for Kerkez’s signature. While Bournemouth maintain they won’t sell this month, Liverpool’s £50 million valuation could test their resolve.
With Liverpool excelling in all competitions this season, addressing the left-back position appears a higher priority than adding to their already potent attack. Kerkez could provide the perfect blend of defensive stability and attacking threat to take Liverpool’s play to the next level.
Though a January move seems unlikely, Liverpool appear to have identified Kerkez as their top summer target to reinforce the defense. His potential arrival could allow Robertson to be gradually phased out while maintaining Liverpool’s high standards at left-back for years to come.
