Ademola Lookman, despite initial doubts about his fitness, played a pivotal role in Atalanta`s 2-1 victory over Roma, securing a Champions League spot for the club. The Nigerian forward expressed his admiration for the team`s accomplishments this season.
“Securing Champions League football is an incredible feeling. We understood the significance of today`s match and delivered a performance worthy of qualification,” Lookman told reporters after the game.
The striker, who had been uncertain to play due to an Achilles tendon issue, started the match and opened the scoring. “I always strive to be available and give my best for the team. Our collective strength was evident tonight,” he added.
While Atalanta`s manager Gian Piero Gasperini suggested immediate celebrations, Lookman maintained a more measured approach. “We have another game on Sunday to focus on, but tonight is certainly a cause for celebration. What we`ve achieved this season is no small feat, and everyone deserves congratulations.”
Ibrahim Sulemana, who came off the bench to score the winning goal, was overjoyed with his contribution. “Words can`t express my happiness. This is the result of our hard work,” the young midfielder stated.
Sulemana, who turns 22 next week, has made a significant impact despite limited playing time this season. “The coach instructed me to press and support the attackers. I`m thrilled to have scored the decisive goal,” he said.
Atalanta`s qualification for the Champions League marks another successful campaign for the Bergamo-based club, continuing their impressive run in recent years.
