Lotito Speaks Out on Lazio’s Success, Roma Rivalry, and Italian Football
Claudio Lotito, Lazio’s president and Italian senator, recently shared his thoughts on various football-related topics. He addressed Lazio’s recent defeat, his dual roles in sports and politics, and the challenges of being a club president.
Regarding Lazio’s recent loss, Lotito emphasized the importance of resilience: “What matters is getting back up. Anyone can fall, but strength and willpower are about rising again.” He views setbacks as opportunities for improvement and motivation.
When asked about the differences between football and politics, Lotito noted that football involves many unpredictable factors beyond one’s control, while politics is more about persuasion.
Lotito also discussed the rivalry with Roma, stating, “Roma fans might prefer a more visible president to vent their frustrations. I’ve become a sort of punching bag, taking responsibility for decisions. Last summer, 15,000 protested against me, but they had to reconsider later. Actions speak louder than words.”
The Lazio president proudly mentioned his long-standing support for the club: “I’ve been a Lazio fan since I was five and a half years old.” He also addressed rumors about supporting Roma, explaining that he occasionally attended Roma matches due to family connections.
Regarding financial management in football, Lotito boasted, “I generate resources and have combined sporting results with economic ones. I’m the most successful after Juventus in my years.” He emphasized the importance of transforming available resources into tangible results.
Lotito also touched on his Catholic faith and his approach to running the club, stating that he seeks to be objective and not act impulsively. He concluded by addressing a controversy involving the club’s former falconer, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive image for the team.
