In a recent interview, former Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto expressed his frustration with the management of his former club. The Spanish player, who spent eight years with the Italian side, didn`t mince words when describing the current state of affairs at Lazio.
“The club is being run by people who don`t understand football,” Alberto stated, reflecting on his time in Rome from 2016 to 2024. He pointed out several missteps in the club`s handling of key figures such as Simone Inzaghi, Igli Tare, and Maurizio Sarri.
Alberto added, “It was evident then that we wouldn`t progress. When individuals without football knowledge take charge, it becomes challenging.” However, he had high praise for current head coach Maurizio Sarri: “Thankfully, there`s a coach who speaks his mind and comprehends the game. At least he does. But if the rest of the management doesn`t support him…”
Looking ahead to the upcoming Rome derby against AS Roma, Alberto commented, “It will be a match filled with anticipation, almost to a nerve-wracking degree.”
The stakes are high for Lazio in this derby, beyond just local bragging rights. The team has had a disappointing start to the season, managing only three points from their first three matches under Sarri`s leadership.
