Luís Campos has not yet extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain. As the sporting director’s contract nears its end this season, this situation is causing friction within the club, according to reports from L’Équipe.
PSG had hoped to announce contract extensions for both Campos and manager Luis Enrique at the same time. While Enrique’s extension is now confirmed, an agreement with Campos remains distant. Campos is willing to extend his stay but has become increasingly frustrated recently due to the slow progress in negotiations. He is seeking a swift resolution, but currently, there’s a salary disagreement between him and PSG.
In recent times, numerous reports have linked Campos with positions at clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. The Saudi Federation has refuted a report by Le Parisien that suggested a €200 million offer. Les Parisiens believe these links are a tactic by Campos to pressure PSG and expedite contract talks.
Champions League Clash with Liverpool Could Be Key
L’Équipe suggests that the upcoming UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match against Liverpool could influence the contract negotiations between PSG and Campos. Advancing past Liverpool might lead to PSG meeting Campos’ financial demands, but a defeat could prompt the club to explore alternative sporting director options.
Atlético Madrid’s Andréa Berta is reportedly a primary target for PSG, although he is also highly sought after by other clubs. Some sources even mention discussions between Berta and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
