Luis de la Fuente Extends Contract as Spain’s National Team Coach

The Spanish Football Federation has officially announced that Luis de la Fuente has renewed his contract as the head coach of the Spanish national team until 2028. This extension fulfills the electoral promise made by Rafael Louzán, the new president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, and secures the future of the coach who led Spain to victory in the European Championship and the Nations League.

De la Fuente’s previous contract was set to expire after the 2026 World Cup, but this new agreement extends his tenure for an additional two years. According to reports from ‘AS’, his salary has also been significantly improved, now estimated to be around two million euros per year.

Despite being in charge of the Spanish national team for only three years, De la Fuente has already achieved remarkable success, winning both the European Championship and the UEFA Nations League. Interestingly, his contract had not been updated since his time as the coach of Spain’s under-21 team.

With this new contract, De la Fuente is expected to lead Spain through two more major tournaments. Having already triumphed in his first major competition by bringing the European Championship title to Spain, he will now focus on the upcoming 2026 World Cup. The 2028 European Championship will likely be his third and possibly final major tournament with the team.

In addition to these major events, De la Fuente will guide Spain through various qualification phases for upcoming tournaments and several editions of the UEFA Nations League, with the next competition starting in March. The question now is whether the newly renewed coach can secure another title for Spain in the near future.
