Lyon Goalkeeper Lucas Perri Granted Leave for Family Reasons
Olympique Lyonnais has permitted their 27-year-old goalkeeper Lucas Perri to travel back to Brazil for an important family matter. The Brazilian’s wife is expected to give birth soon, prompting the club to grant him leave.
Following Lyon’s disappointing elimination from the UEFA Europa League by Manchester United, the team returned to France early Friday morning. However, Perri’s stay was brief. He was noticeably absent from the afternoon training session on Friday.
As a result of his authorized departure to Brazil, Perri will not be available for Lyon’s crucial derby match against AS Saint-Étienne scheduled for Sunday evening. In his absence, former FC Nantes goalkeeper Rémy Descamps will take the starting position, with young talent Lassine Diarra serving as backup on the bench.
This derby is of particular importance as Lyon aims to secure their position for UEFA Champions League qualification. The team will have to face their rivals, Saint-Étienne, without their regular goalkeeper as they fight to maintain their standing in the league.
