Lyon Terminates Pierre Sage’s Contract, Eyes Paulo Fonseca as Replacement
Olympique Lyonnais has made the decision to terminate Pierre Sage’s contract as manager following a series of underwhelming performances, including a recent 1-1 draw against FC Nantes.
Sage had initially impressed last season when he took charge of Lyon, who were at the bottom of the league table. Despite his lack of managerial experience, he managed to guide the team to the Coupe de France final and secure a place in European competition.
However, this season has seen Lyon struggle to maintain consistent form. The team’s shock elimination from the Coupe de France by amateur side FC Bourgoin-Jallieu put Sage under intense scrutiny. The final straw came after consecutive draws against FC Toulouse, Fenerbahçe, and Nantes.
Paulo Fonseca Emerges as Leading Candidate
Reports suggest that former Lille OSC and AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca is the frontrunner to replace Sage. Lyon’s ownership, led by John Textor, is also considering Portuguese coach Luis Castro for the position.
As Lyon looks to turn their season around, the appointment of a new manager will be crucial in determining the club’s future direction and success.
