Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso Sidelined for Remainder of Season Due to Knee Injury
Lyon midfielder Corentin Tolisso, aged 30, is expected to be out of action for the rest of the Ligue 1 season following a knee injury sustained during Sunday’s Derby du Rhône against Saint-Étienne. The World Cup-winning player had to be carried off the field after a forceful tackle by Lucas Stassin.
Initially, the Belgian forward received a red card for his aggressive challenge on Lyon’s vice-captain. However, after a VAR review, the decision was downgraded to a yellow card. Given the need for Tolisso to be stretchered off, there were immediate concerns about a potential knee injury. The 30-year-old has previously experienced two major knee injuries in his professional career.
Fortunately, medical scans have revealed more positive results than initially feared. Instead of ligament damage or tears, Tolisso has suffered a minor internal knee sprain. While this diagnosis is more favorable, the French international is still anticipated to be sidelined for several weeks.
This setback comes as a significant blow to both Tolisso and Lyon, as they lose a key player for the crucial part of the season. The team will need to adapt their midfield strategy in his absence and hope for a swift recovery.
