Maffeo Calls Bellingham a “Phony” in Controversial Interview
Mallorca defender Pablo Maffeo has once again stirred controversy with his comments about Real Madrid players. In a recent interview with ‘La Zona 10’, Maffeo didn’t hold back when discussing English midfielder Jude Bellingham, following the latter’s contentious red card in the Osasuna-Real Madrid match.
Maffeo expressed a clear preference for Vinicius Jr. over Bellingham, stating, “I like Vinicius better than Bellingham because he’s like me – hot-headed and straightforward. The other one is sneaky. It’s like in real life; if you don’t like me, fine, but say it to my face.”
The Spanish-Argentine defender didn’t mince words when describing Bellingham: “If you act like a gentleman, like the boy who’s cold and needs a jacket, but then behind people’s backs you insult or criticize your teammates, you’re a phony. Come at me directly. If you don’t like me, I already know it, but don’t pretend to be nice. So if I have to choose between the two, I’ll take Vinicius, because I know how he is.”
This isn’t the first time Maffeo has made controversial statements about Real Madrid players. A few weeks ago, he claimed he could “knock out Vinicius in 10 seconds” in a hypothetical boxing match. It remains to be seen whether Bellingham will respond to Maffeo’s latest comments.
As tensions continue to simmer, football fans are left wondering how these off-field disputes might impact future encounters between Mallorca and Real Madrid on the pitch.
