Mallorca Player’s Father Condemns Saudi Fans’ Behavior as Uncivilized
Kike Darder, the father of Mallorca midfielder Sergi Darder, has spoken out against the behavior of fans from Saudi Arabia following a recent match. The incident occurred after Mallorca’s 3-0 loss to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal on January 9th, held at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium in Saudi Arabia.
Following the game, Mallorca club representatives and supporters accused Saudi fans of harassment and inappropriate conduct. Darder Sr. described the situation as “a siege by unreasonable individuals who demand respect while groping women and insulting us.” He expressed concern for the safety of those present, particularly women, who were reportedly frightened by the events.
Darder Sr. highlighted the lack of security, stating, “There was no protection. No one. It lasted for 15 to 20 minutes.” He emphasized that the problematic area was between the stadium sector exit and the team bus. “Reaching the bus was a relief because there seemed to be no end to the constant siege,” he added.
Describing the experience as surreal and deeply unpleasant, Darder Sr. concluded, “I witnessed uncivilized people, unreasonable individuals, mocking us. It was surreal. I’ve never experienced anything like it before.”
This incident has raised concerns about fan behavior and security measures at international sporting events, particularly in venues where cultural differences may be significant.
