Man Utd May Introduce Their Own Nwaneri: 17-Year-Old Fletcher

Manchester United is preparing for a challenging Premier League match against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Red Devils are eager to secure a victory after recent draws.

United’s last two games ended in 1-1 draws, first against Fulham in the FA Cup, where they were subsequently eliminated on penalties, and then against Real Sociedad in the Europa League. Joshua Zirkzee scored for United in the Europa League match before Real Sociedad equalized with a penalty.

Winning against Mikel Arteta’s team would be a significant boost for United. Manager Amorim might consider including some former Arsenal players in the lineup for the game at Old Trafford.

Former Arsenal Players Who Could Feature for United

During the summer transfer window, Manchester United signed the promising young striker Chido Obi from Arsenal. After his contract with the Gunners expired, United moved quickly to secure his signature. Obi has progressed through the academy ranks and has already made appearances for the first team.

Obi has played three matches for Amorim’s team, making a notable impact in the recent FA Cup game against Fulham. In that game, he created several scoring opportunities for himself.

Another former Arsenal player who could play against his old club on Sunday is Ayden Heaven. Heaven, a defender, joined Manchester United in January. United paid a compensation fee to bring him in earlier than initially planned.

Heaven debuted for Manchester United in the FA Cup match against Fulham. He played the entire extra time period as a left centre-back and impressed.

Journalist Richard Martin described Heaven’s performance as ‘excellent’, giving him a rating of 7/10.

Man Utd Potentially Discovers Their Nwaneri

Ethan Nwaneri from Arsenal has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in the Premier League this season. He has performed exceptionally well for Arsenal, contributing with goals and assists.

While United cannot field Nwaneri, they have a similar prospect in Jack Fletcher. Like Nwaneri, Fletcher is a 17-year-old left-footed attacking midfielder.

Fletcher has greatly impressed in Manchester United’s youth setup this season. He has played 15 games across competitions, scoring and assisting six goals each, primarily as a number ten.

Fletcher’s academy record for United – 2024/25
Competition Games Goals Assists
Premier League 2 6 2 3
UEFA Youth League 3 0 1
FA Youth Cup 3 2 2
EFL Trophy 2 2 0
Under-18s Premier League 1 0 0

It is plausible that Fletcher, described as “marvellous”, could be involved in the game against Arsenal.

Fletcher, son of Manchester United legend Darren Fletcher, has been a substitute in five games this season, including once in a game under Amorim against Tottenham Hotspur.

In the recent FA Youth Cup match where Manchester United U-18s defeated Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Fletcher scored a goal.

Journalist Laurie Whitwell described Fletcher’s goal as “stunning,” especially because it was scored with his weaker right foot.

Playing Fletcher against Arsenal would be a bold move by Amorim, given he hasn’t debuted in the first team yet. However, his talent is evident.

If Amorim decides to include Fletcher, the hope would be for him to emulate Nwaneri’s impact at Arsenal and positively influence Manchester United.
