Manchester City Eyes Mohammed Kudus as Potential Savinho Upgrade
Manchester City’s disappointing Premier League form continued with a 1-1 draw against Everton on Boxing Day. The defending champions now sit 14 points behind leaders Liverpool, having won just one of their last 13 matches across all competitions.
Brazilian winger Savinho has struggled to make an impact since his £30.8 million summer move from Troyes. The 20-year-old is yet to score in 23 appearances for City this season, managing just two assists in 15 Premier League games.
Reports suggest Manchester City are preparing a £66 million bid for West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus in January. The Ghanaian forward has impressed since joining the Hammers last summer, scoring 14 goals and providing 6 assists in all competitions in 2023/24.
This season, Kudus has 3 goals and 1 assist in his last 7 Premier League matches. He averages 3.8 successful dribbles per game and has outperformed his expected goals (xG) of 5.18 by scoring 8 times in the league.
At 24, Kudus is a proven Premier League performer who could provide an immediate upgrade on Savinho’s output from the right wing. His dribbling ability and goal threat could help reinvigorate City’s attack as they look to climb back up the table in 2024.
However, City may face competition for Kudus’ signature, with Liverpool, Newcastle and Arsenal also reportedly interested in the West Ham star. It remains to be seen if the Hammers would be willing to sell their prized asset midway through the season.
If City can complete a deal, Kudus has the potential to significantly boost their attacking options and help get their title defense back on track in the second half of the campaign.
