Manchester City Signs Abdukodir Khusanov
Manchester City has officially announced the signing of Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens. The Uzbek center-back has joined Pep Guardiola’s squad on a contract until 2029, with the English club paying a reported €50 million transfer fee.
Khusanov, who joined Lens in 2023 for just €100,000 from Belarusian club Energetik-BGU, becomes Manchester City’s first signing of the January transfer window. The 20-year-old defender’s profile aligns well with Guardiola’s playing style, thanks to his excellent ball distribution and speed in recovery.
His former coach, Will Still, describes him as follows: “He has incredible talent, makes an impact in every match, and does exactly what we ask of him. He’s fast, athletic, very good with the ball, and extremely well-rounded.”
Khusanov’s arrival comes at a crucial time for City, as their defense has been weakened due to injuries to Ruben Dias and John Stones, as well as Kyle Walker’s potential departure. The Uzbek youngster is expected to provide immediate reinforcement to the backline.
In the coming days, Manchester City is also anticipated to announce the signings of Omar Marmoush and Vitor Reis, with potentially more additions to follow as they look to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season.
