Manchester City Target January Acquisition of 24-Year-Old Attacking “Phenomenon”
Manchester City are reportedly looking to sign an attacking “phenomenon” in the January transfer window to help ease the burden on striker Erling Haaland.
City’s poor run of form continued on Boxing Day with a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Everton, despite taking the lead. Haaland missed a penalty in the second half that could have sealed the win.
The Norwegian striker has been struggling for form recently, scoring just 6 league goals since August after a blistering start to his City career. The decision to sell Julian Alvarez in the summer is now looking questionable given the lack of attacking alternatives.
According to reports, Manchester City are interested in signing Lille striker Jonathan David in January. The club have been closely monitoring the in-form 24-year-old in recent weeks as they look to manage Haaland’s playing time.
David has been in excellent scoring form this season, netting 11 goals in 12 league starts for Lille. He also boasts an impressive international record of 31 goals in 59 appearances for Canada.
While David alone would not solve all of City’s current issues, he could provide valuable support and allow Haaland more rest. At just 24 years old, the Canadian striker still has room for further development and could prove to be an astute signing for the Premier League champions.
