Manchester City Targets £51m Midfielder Hugo Larsson Following Gonzalez Acquisition
Following a busy January transfer window that saw five new arrivals, Manchester City is reportedly planning a summer move for another midfield reinforcement to bolster Pep Guardiola’s squad.
The Premier League champions addressed several needs during the winter window, including the addition of striker Omar Marmoush and promising defenders Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Juma Bah. They capped off their recruitment drive by signing midfielder Nico Gonzalez on deadline day to provide cover for the injured Rodri.
Gonzalez expressed his excitement about joining City, stating, “This is an ideal opportunity at this stage of my career. At 23, I’m eager to test myself in England, and there’s no better club than Manchester City to do that.”
While Gonzalez faces the challenge of filling Rodri’s shoes in the short term, City may be looking to further strengthen their midfield options. According to reports, the club is now competing with Real Madrid and other suitors for the signature of Hugo Larsson from Eintracht Frankfurt. The Bundesliga side reportedly values the Swedish midfielder at €60m (£51m).
Even with Rodri’s eventual return to fitness, Manchester City could benefit from fresh talent in midfield. The team’s current midfield corps has shown signs of age at times this season, with players like Ilkay Gundogan, Mateo Kovacic, and Bernardo Silva struggling to maintain their usual high standards.
Larsson, at just 20 years old, represents an exciting prospect for the future. The Swedish international has impressed for Frankfurt this season, contributing four goals and two assists from midfield. Football talent scout Jacek Kulig recently praised Larsson as a “brilliant signing” for the German club.
As they prepare to face Real Madrid both on and off the pitch, Manchester City will be keen to secure Larsson’s services and continue building for the future. The addition of another talented young midfielder could help address the team’s depth issues and ensure long-term success in the Premier League and Champions League.
