Manchester United Confident of Early January Left-Back Signing

Manchester United are reportedly optimistic about acquiring a new left-back early in the January transfer window to strengthen a priority position. Journalist Chris Winterburn has provided an overview of potential targets the club is considering.

With Luke Shaw battling injuries, Diogo Dalot has been filling in at left-back, which is not his natural position. This has prompted United to seek a more suitable option this winter. The club has been linked with established names like AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez and Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, whose contract is expiring soon.

However, given the high interest and likely cost for those players, United may pursue a less prominent but promising option. Winterburn has identified Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez as a potential target in what could be a more financially prudent deal.

Gutierrez has been impressing for Girona in La Liga, particularly in attack. He ranks in the 94th percentile for assists per 90 minutes among his positional peers over the past year. The 22-year-old Spaniard has gained valuable experience, including six Champions League appearances this season.

While Girona may still demand a significant fee for Gutierrez, who is under contract until 2027, he could prove an excellent acquisition for United if they can negotiate a deal. The Red Devils appear determined to address their left-back situation early in the transfer window to bolster their squad for the second half of the season.
