Manchester United Considering Sale of £150k-per-week Defender
Manchester United are reportedly open to selling defender Luke Shaw this summer, according to recent reports. The England international, who earns £150,000 per week, has struggled with injuries over the past 18 months and has seen limited playing time this season.
Shaw has made just three appearances for United in the current campaign, all as a substitute. His last start for the club came back in February 2024 against Luton Town. The arrival of young left-back Patrick Dorgu in January has added further competition for Shaw’s position.
Despite being labeled a “top, top player” by potential incoming manager Ruben Amorim, Shaw’s future at Old Trafford appears uncertain. The club are not placing any long-term expectations on the 29-year-old and would be willing to listen to offers in the summer transfer window.
United are looking to transition away from expensive, senior players and focus on developing young talent. Shaw’s high wages and injury record may make him a candidate for departure as the club aims to reshape the squad under new ownership.
While Shaw has been a key player for United in recent years, making 278 appearances since joining in 2014, his declining availability has become a concern. The defender’s contract runs until 2027, but United may look to move him on earlier to free up funds and playing time for new signings.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Shaw’s situation will be one to monitor closely. His quality is undeniable when fit, but United appear ready to consider a future without the long-serving left-back as they enter a new era at the club.
