Since Ruben Amorim took charge of Manchester United at the end of 2024, the team has adapted to a 3-4-2-1 formation. This tactical shift has been beneficial after struggles with a back four under Erik ten Hag.
Many players, including winger Alejandro Garnacho, have adjusted their roles to fit Amorim’s system. Garnacho now plays more as a number ten than a traditional winger.
Another player adapting is Diogo Dalot, who has recently been deployed as a wing-back.
Dalot’s Performance Under Amorim
Dalot has been heavily involved under Amorim, featuring in 24 games across all competitions, missing only one match due to suspension.
Earlier this season, Dalot scored against FCSB in the Europa League, converting Kobbie Mainoo’s cross.
However, Dalot’s form has been inconsistent. Football analyst H has criticized his performances, stating in early February that Dalot has been “garbage for months”.
In a Europa League game against Real Sociedad, Dalot’s failure to pass to Rasmus Hojlund led to visible frustration from the striker, according to journalist Laurie Whitwell.
Given Dalot’s patchy form, Amorim might consider academy options to lighten his workload at right wing-back.
Manchester United’s Academy Solution at Wing-Back
Manchester United’s academy is renowned for producing talent. One emerging prospect is 18-year-old full-back Jaydan Kamason, described as “different class” by an academy insider.
Kamason has made 27 appearances this season, scoring twice and providing six assists, with standout performances in the FA Youth Cup.
He contributed two assists in a 5-1 victory over Chelsea and scored a notable goal against Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup quarter-final.
Kamason has also impressed in the UEFA Youth League, particularly in a 5-2 win against FK Zalgiris.
Against FK Zalgiris, Kamason had 121 touches, a 96% pass accuracy, and won all of his tackles.

Kamason’s attacking and defensive abilities suggest he is a promising talent for Amorim. A first-team debut may be on the horizon to support Dalot and showcase another academy graduate. Journalist Shaun Connolly notes that Kamason is ‘banging’ on the door for a debut soon.
