Manchester United to Battle Barcelona for Promising £20m Full-Back

Manchester United are preparing to go head-to-head with Barcelona in the race to sign Feyenoord’s talented young right-back Givairo Read, according to recent reports. The 18-year-old defender has caught the attention of several top European clubs with his impressive performances in the Dutch Eredivisie this season.

Read has broken into Feyenoord’s first team this campaign, making 17 league appearances and providing six assists from his right-back position. His attacking prowess and versatility – with the ability to play in multiple positions including left-back and central midfield – have made him an attractive prospect for United manager Ruben Amorim’s system.

Despite being under contract until 2028, Feyenoord are reportedly willing to sell Read for a fee in the region of £20-25 million. This has alerted not only United and Barcelona, but also other Premier League sides like Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

United’s interest in Read comes amid concerns over the form of current right-back Diogo Dalot, who has struggled for consistency this season. With just 22 goal involvements in 202 appearances for United, Dalot’s offensive output has been disappointing for a wing-back in Amorim’s system.

The potential signing of Read would provide competition and possibly an upgrade at the right-back position for United. However, they will need to act decisively to beat out strong competition from Barcelona and other suitors for the Dutch youngster’s signature this summer.

As United look to strengthen multiple areas of their squad, Read represents an exciting young talent who could develop into a key player for years to come. His attacking skills and positional flexibility make him an ideal fit for Amorim’s tactical approach as the club aims to return to the top of English and European football.
