Project with Social and Economic Benefits

The stadium renovation concept extends beyond sports, aiming to be a project that benefits the United Kingdom, particularly economically and in terms of employment. This undertaking, estimated to cost over 2 billion pounds, seeks to boost the club and the country’s finances. The English club explains: “The stadium and regeneration project have the potential to contribute an additional 7.3 billion pounds (nearly 9 billion euros) annually to the UK economy, translating into large-scale social and economic benefits for the community and the wider region, including the potential creation of 92,000 new jobs and over 17,000 new homes, as well as attracting 1.8 million additional visitors per year.”

This project will not only benefit the country but also provide significant advantages for Manchester United itself. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of the club, stated: “Manchester United will become the most profitable club in the world, we will end up having the most iconic football stadium in the world, and we will win titles again.” Ratcliffe also compared the new stadium to the Eiffel Tower: “Millions of people go to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower, and we believe that our millions of fans around the world will want to come to Manchester to see the stadium.” He further noted that the stadium would contribute over 7 billion pounds annually to the economy of Manchester and the north of the country.

“This is your future. Your home. Your United”

The new Old Trafford, under the slogan “This is your future. Your home. Your United,” aspires to be one of the most impressive stadiums in world football. Images released by the club showcase a very futuristic and grand stadium. “It will be the largest football stadium in the world,” Ratcliffe claimed. Regarding its location, it will be situated very close to the current Old Trafford.

Where Will United Play and What Will Happen to Old Trafford?

As the new ‘Red Devils’ home will be built in one of the current stadium’s parking lots, the club can continue playing at Old Trafford during construction. Despite the magic of the old ‘Old Trafford’, the infrastructure is quite worn out and suffers from various issues like flooding. Consequently, the club has decided it’s time to initiate a project expected to take approximately five years. The classic Old Trafford, on the other hand, will be renovated and repurposed to host matches for the women’s team and the youth academy. We will see when one of the most ambitious projects in English football begins.
