Mané Alioune was taken to the hospital after experiencing a racist incident. The event occurred during added time in the match between Deportivo de la Coruña’s reserve team and Rayo Cantabria, which ended 0-1 in favor of the Cantabrian team. The Senegalese footballer received severe racist insults from a Rayo Cantabria player, causing him to suffer an anxiety attack. Mané was subsequently hospitalized.
Mané Alioune was a victim of racist insults in the Second RFEF match between Deportivo Fabril and Rayo Cantabria. “You are a piece of monkey shit,” a player from the Cantabrian team reportedly said to Alioune. This episode resulted in an anxiety attack for the footballer, leading to his hospitalization. Manuel Astray López, the doctor for Deportivo’s reserve team, diagnosed the anxiety attack. This was reflected in the referee’s report: “an acute anxiety episode as a result of the racist incident, and he will be transferred to a hospital center to receive medical attention, as certified by a report, which is delivered to me signed by him.”
The match referee, Alonso Luiña, who did not personally hear anything, recorded the events in the report: “Once the match ended, and while we were heading towards the tunnel, still on the field, a member of the Deportivo Fabril coaching staff, whom I later identified as David Vidal Collazo, performing the duties of goalkeeper coach, approached me and informed me that during the confrontation between players of both teams that occurred in the 95th minute, a racist incident took place. This coach stated that a Rayo Cantabria player addressed a Deportivo Fabril player using racist expressions such as ‘you are a piece of monkey shit’. At the time these events occurred, both my assistants and I were inside the field managing the aforementioned confrontation and we did not hear any insults, nor any expression of a racist nature. The doctor of Deportivo Fabril informs me that player number 17 presents an acute anxiety episode as a result of the incident and that he will be transferred to a hospital center to receive attention.”
The Deportivo de la Coruña, for its part, released an official statement condemning the racist incidents, supporting the player, and announcing that it will take legal action: “RC Deportivo is a club firm in its commitment to inclusion, respect, and diversity, and will not tolerate any manifestation of intolerance. We will continue to fight with all resources at our disposal to eradicate these acts of hatred inside and outside the playing fields. The Club will take all necessary actions to ensure that incidents of this kind are not repeated. From the first moment, RC Deportivo has conveyed to Mane all our support and solidarity in this difficult moment. Likewise, RC Deportivo wants to make it clear that it will take this incident to the highest level of the competent institutions and will not stop until those responsible are sanctioned in an exemplary manner.”
