Manolo González: “We fought a very tough league with zero investment”
Espanyol secured a convincing 4-0 away victory against Rayo Vallecano, moving further away from the relegation zone. After the match, coach Manolo González shared his thoughts:
“We’re very pleased with the team’s outstanding performance. The players believed in our game plan and put in tremendous effort. We showed the composure up front that we’ve often lacked. I’m delighted we played such a complete game.”
“This result reflects what we’ve been aiming for. We found our players well and attacked effectively with few passes. No other team has won here so convincingly.”
“I’m happy for all the players. This team deserves credit whether we win, lose, or draw. We’ve fought in a very challenging league with zero investment. The locker room has remained united. The players give their all to keep Espanyol in the top division, and I’m fully committed to them.”
González also discussed the team’s improved finishing, tactical adjustments during the match, and the importance of winning away from home. He praised the squad’s unity despite many players being on loan or nearing the end of their contracts.
Looking ahead, the coach emphasized the need to focus on their own performance rather than relying on other teams’ results. “We’ve done our job and put pressure on the teams below us. We shouldn’t depend on others. It’s a bad sign if we do. We need to secure safety through our own merits by the end of the season,” González concluded.
